 Regulatory Approvals

The following articles contain information regarding the independant reviews and approvals of our OZONATOR technology.

Please note that in the United States, the standards of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are administered on a State by State basis, with some States choosing to be even more digulent in their review and approval process.

Below we have posted some of the documentation reviewed by various jurisdictions along with copies of their approvals.

Questions and Answers

What type of waste will the Ozonator handle?
The OZONATOR is designed for the sterilization of medical and bio-hazardous waste including infectious agents, blood, pathological waste, animal waste, sharps and anatomical waste.  Due to the advanced design of the technology, it is also an efficient and cost-effective way to treat multiple waste streams at a facility.  The OZONATOR NG is NOT designed for the treatment of hazardous waste, 100% liquid waste or metals that cannot be shredded.

Will the Ozonator handle anatomical waste?

Yes, the OZONATOR is capable of handling anatomical waste due to the effectiveness of the shredding process that renders all waste unrecognizable.

What certifications has Ozonator achieved?

The OZONATOR technology recently underwent an extensive review and analysis by the Canadian Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program.  The program is delivered by ETV Canada under a license agreement from Environment Canada. The Canadian ETV Program is designed to support Canada’s environment industry by providing credible and independent verification of technology performance claims.

Their independent review verified that the OZONATOR achieved a 6 log10 reduction in spores.  Additionally, the OZONATOR is the only technology for the sterilization of solid bio-hazardous waste that has achieved ETV validation.

The OZONATOR has also received regulatory approvals in several states and other geographical regions.

How does the Ozonator compare with other technologies?
Simply put – it`s cleaner, safer, faster, more cost-effective and well, just all-around better!

Is ozone safe?
Yes, when created, controlled and monitored properly, ozone is safe and natural way to treat bio-hazardous waste.

What is the processing capacity of the Ozonator equipment?

The OZONATOR can treat up to 880 lbs of waste in every 20 minute cycle.  The Ozonator can operate on a continuous basis 24/7 with about one hour per week of down time for cleaning and maintenance.

What are the training requirements for the Ozonator?
A company staff member can be trained to operate an OZONATOR in about 1 hour.  Maintenance training is available through Ozonator Industries Ltd and their authorized training partners in a multi-day training session either on-site or at Ozonator Industries in Regina, Saskatchewan - Canada.

What is the warranty?
Machinery is covered with a warranty of a ninety (90) day term from the date of delivery on parts and labour and a warranty for replacement parts on the balance of the term up to 12 months from date of delivery or 2,000 total operating hours, whichever comes first, against manufacturer's equipment defaults (material and workmanship) while in normal use; non-wear parts only.

How do we obtain spare or replacement parts?
Ozonator Industries and its global network of Distributors and Representatives are committed to ensuring that your facility has immediate access to replacement parts.

How do I obtain service for my OZONATOR?
Service is available through your Regional Distributor and long-term service contracts are available at the time of purchase.  The client has the option to train your own staff to handle scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.

Are Operating and Maintenance Manuals available?
Yes, the OZONATOR ships with a complete set of operation and safety manuals.  Additionally, operator and supervisor training is available either at the Ozonator Industries Head Office or at your site.

Where can we visit a system in operation?
At this time, operation units are available for tours at the Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana USA or at the manufacturing facility in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada.

What are the procedures for on-going efficacy testing?

Procedures for efficacy testing on a daily, weekly or even per load are defined and fully explained in the manuals that ship with the unit.  For an explanation of these procedures, contact your regional Distributor or Representative.

Are lease options available?
Yes, leasing and other financing options are available including Export Development Canada (EDC) assistance for international customers. www.edc.ca

Do you offer units using different voltages and frequencies for other countries?

Yes, modifications can be made to suit any regions requirements world-wide. 60 Hz. or 50 Hz.

What are the terms and conditions of sale?
The standard terms of a sale are 50% deposit at time of order and payment in full prior to shipment ex-works Regina, Saskatchewan - Canada.

Does Ozonator provide spare parts with purchase?
Spare parts can be ordered at time of purchase, or at a later date through our regional distributors.

Can the OZONATOR be opened to remove items such as titanium metal?

Yes, should it be required, an operator with the proper training and the adequate security access to the more advanced features of the NG-1000operating system, can safely over-ride some of the functions of the NG-1000 in order to deal with operational anomalies.

What is the maximum percentage of moisture of the medical waste?

The OZONATOR  has been ETV verified for loads with up to 20% moisture content.  However, simple procedures exist for the operator to follow should they suspect that a load of waste to be processed contains more than 20% moisture.

What other waste can be processed in the Ozonator equipment?

The OZONATOR  is capable of handling multiple waste streams in a cost-effective manner.  In addition to bio-hazardous waste, it can be used to treat general waste, kitchen waste, confidential documents, airport and quarantined waste, etc.

What is the percentage of volume reduction can we expect?

Field testing has proven that the volume reduction in the waste processed through the OZONATOR can be as high as 90%.

How is the processed waste disposed? Where?
Once waste has been processed in the OZONATOR, it can be disposed of in any regular municipal landfill or used in a waste-to-energy facility.

How long will the shredder last?
The life of the teeth on the shredder will depend on how many hours per day the unit is operating as well as the hardness of the material that is being processed by the unit.  While we cannot generally predict a time frame until a shredder re-build will be required, it is reasonable to expect the shredder teeth to have to be replaced between 18 and 36 months of continuous usage.

What regular maintenance is required for the Ozonator equipment?

The OZONATOR requires on average about one hour per week of cleaning and general maintenance.

Can the Ozonator operate on a continuous basis?
Yes, when using the OZONATOR , waste is processed using a continuous batch process.  The unit only requires a very short amount of time for the initial start-up and no time is required between the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.

What is the maximum volume and weight of load?
The maximum weight for any single load is 880 pounds (400 kg) by weight or two cubic yards by volume.

What are the average number cycles that we can expect per hour?

It is realistic to expect three cycles of waste to be processed each hour.
